  About the Mayor

Mongameli Bobani, is a former student activist, one of the prominent South African politicians and a leader of the United Democratic Movement in Nelson Mandela Bay region. He currently serves as the Executive Mayor of the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality, having taken office in August 2018. He also serves as a leader of the United Democratic Movement caucus in the Nelson Mandela Bay council. 

Cllr Bobani previously served the city as Deputy Executive Mayor and Member of Mayoral Committee for Public Health. Before that, Cllr Bobani has been a proportional representative Councillor for the United Democratic Movement since 2002, serving in different Standing Committees.

The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality is now governed by a multi-party coalition consisting of the African National Congress, United Democratic Movement, African Independent Congress and United Front.
